How to enter Netflix codes (desktop, mobile, TV)

A Netflix genre code is not a feature with an input box somewhere in the app. It works as part of a web address, which means you can only use it where you can type an address.

That is why it works on some devices and not others. In short: a desktop browser is the sure thing, mobile needs a browser rather than the app, and a smart TV effectively cannot take one directly.

Step by step

1. Sign in to Netflix first — If you are signed out, any code address just takes you to the login screen. Sign in and select your profile before you start. 2. Type the genre address — Put your code after netflix.com/browse/genre/ — horror, for example, becomes netflix.com/browse/genre/8711. 3. Check what loads — A list of titles in that genre means it worked. Bouncing back to the home screen means that code is not usable right now. 4. Bookmark the genres you use often — Save the address that opened and you will not have to enter the code again next time.

Desktop browser — the reliable route

Chrome, Edge, Safari, any of them. While signed in, type netflix.com/browse/genre/ followed by the code and the genre list opens straight away. You need to have picked a profile first, and because profiles can carry different viewing restrictions, the same code can return a different number of titles on different profiles.

Mobile — the app cannot, the browser can

The Netflix mobile app has nowhere to type an address, so codes do not work there. Open Netflix in Chrome or Safari on your phone instead and enter the address exactly as you would on a computer. Tapping a link often bounces you into the app, so typing the address directly in the browser is more dependable. A comfortable pattern is to browse by code in the browser, then switch to the app to play.

Smart TV — not realistically possible directly

The TV app does not accept addresses either, and built-in TV browsers usually cannot play Netflix properly. The practical approach is to find titles by code on a computer or phone, add them to My List, then open My List in the TV app. Choosing on one device and watching on another is the least awkward split.

Can I type a code into the search box?

No. Netflix search treats a number as part of a title, not as a genre code. Some guides tell you to "enter the code in search" — that advice is simply wrong. Codes only work as an address.

자주 묻는 질문

How do I enter a Netflix code?

Signed in, type netflix.com/browse/genre/ followed by the code number in your browser address bar. There is nowhere to enter it inside the app.

Can I use hidden genre codes in the mobile app?

Not in the app itself. Open Netflix in your phone browser and enter the address the same way you would on a computer.

How do I use secret codes on a smart TV?

Direct entry is not practical. Find titles by code on a phone or computer, add them to My List, then open My List in the TV app.

Can I put the code in the search box?

No. Search reads the number as part of a title. Codes only work in the address.

Do codes work on every device?

Only where you can type a web address. Desktop is the sure thing, mobile works via a browser, and the TV app cannot do it.
